Sewing Diary: Entry II
Hello Friends!
It’s been a little over a month since I had a diary entry and (kind of) a lot has happened.
I went through some more fabric and donated an estimate of about 14 yards! That was back in December so I won’t be able to add it to 2021 totals but it feels great either way! I reorganized and switched out some of the “visible” and “non-visible” (aka packed away) stash.
In one of the reorganizing sessions, I was looking through the tub of fabric still boxed up from my apartment and found the gorgeous Art Gallery Fabric 1-yard cuts. I won them in an Instagram giveaway contest back in 2015.
They are from the Art Gallery Fabric Elements collection and they are super high quality…but only 1 yard each colorway. Fantastic if you are a quilter…not so much for a garment sewist. But back in 2018, I made two pillowcases from the two of the colorways and they became my favorite pillowcases ever.
So comfortable.
SEE THE JOY! 😉
I decided instead of putting the pieces away…why not sew up so more pillowcases?
The pattern for the pillowcases is “Jewel’s Overcomplicated Pillowcase Pattern”. (Or JOPP for short.)
I “designed” these with French seams everywhere and every seam is sewn, enclosed and sturdy. Which is great but…I can never remember the order of operations…
Originally, I was going to make a How-To but got so confused because of the complexity I skipped it. One day, maybe, I’ll sit down and write the instructions so even I remember how to sew them. 😂
Four yards are made into useful items and in the bedding drawer! …again made in 2020 but that’s still great! Anything helps.
I am in the midst of sewing my #7 Make: Scrap Denim Quilt from the 2021 Make Nine list which is making a nice big dent in the stash for the new year. (Will share more about that project and the stash usage in the final quilt post.)
I have high hopes for 2021 in regards to making the stash into a more realistic size. I am not making any specific stash-busting goals this year, rather focusing on completing the Make Nine list…for once. 😉
Happy Sewing,
